We also pride ourselves on family fun (and yes, that even means the teenagers), so there’s never been a better place to get the kids off the internet and out on an adventure. Have a read below at some of the great adventures you can go on when staying at Skelwith Fold caravan park.

Lake District Adventure Activities

On our doorstep, in the heart of Ambleside, you can get up and out with a range of activities. Mere Mountains has a venue in Ambleside and the surrounding areas of Lake Windermere where they offer countless adventures from abseiling and ghyll scrambling to bushcraft and kayaking.

Learn survival skills and climb a mountain or take it easy with a hike searching for hidden gems. From only £144 for up to 4 people, you can have a qualified instructor all to yourselves. The dirt will wash from their hands but the memories will stay forever.

Horse-riding

Not feeling so adventurous? Well fortunately, Lakeland Pony Treks offer both lead rides for beginners and Fell rides for the more confident riders. Located under 20 minutes from Skelwith Fold, you can choose up to two hours of gentle riding that will allow you to view your stunning surroundings in relative comfort. The kids will love horsin’ around with their new four legged best friend!

Even teens will be blown away by the famous scenic route that climbs upward towards Kentmere, before crossing to Applethwaite Common and scanning across the stunning Dubbs Reservoir. Romantic, breathtaking and fun – you can’t go wrong.

Every parent wants their child to reach for the sky, and thanks to Treetop Trek and Go Ape, now they can. For the little ones, Treetop Trek in Brockhole boasts giant trampolines, walkways, slides and tunnels all made out of netting, suspended between trees for kids 3 and up. 5 year olds and up can try the 35 exciting treetop challenges. Suitable for all abilities, you’ll be swinging and climbing through a woodland canopy and whizzing down one of Treetop Trek’s 250m parallel zip wires.

Not big enough? Then Go Ape is the treetop adventure for you. Grizedale Forest offers hiking and biking trails as well as an unrivalled day out from above. You can soar down a whopping seven tandem zip lines all whilst suspended 19 metres above the ground, in amongst the gigantic Douglas Fir trees.

English Heritage Sites

Get the kids battle ready with wooden swords and shields at Ambleside Roman Fort. Surge into battle at the well-marked ruins or walk in the same footsteps as a real Roman and visit a selection of English heritage sites in the surrounding area.

These sites were once linked to Ambleside by a Roman road that went from the remains of the bath house at Ravenglass and across the shores of Lake Windermere where you can find the award-winning Stott Park Bobbin Mill. This quieter day will keep the kids intrigued with relics of the past and open their eyes to the sublime beauty of the world outside.
