Kendal Museum was founded in 1796 and is one of the oldest museums in the country! It has a wonderful set of collections including local archeology, as well as a wide collection of natural history exhibits which shouldn’t be missed! Also at the museum is a shop, cafe and play area.
We think this is an amazing little museum with lots of different bits and pieces to discover. There is a variety of items from many periods of human history along with lots of natural history exhibits, geological samples and also some nice bits of local history is presented in an eclectic way. One of our favourites is the wildlife section. The taxidermy on display is truly amazing. They also have a detective trail for younger visitors with a little prize at the end.
It is definitely worth a visit – and you’ll be surprised at how much you can discover at this historic local museum!
Kendal Museum is around 30 minutes away by car from Skelwith Fold. There is a pay and display car park which is situated adjacent to the Museum.
