    • Skelwith Fold is open each year from 1st March until the third week of November. Our stunning 5-star holiday park in the Lake District is the perfect destination for touring caravans, motorhomes and family friendly camping holidays. Escape to our woodland glamping pods or safari tents. Take a break in one of our luxurious Holiday Cottages. Or buy one of our static caravans for sale and own your own Lakeland getaway. Our luxury caravan holiday homes make an ideal second home. Please ask at Reception for the exact closing date for the year as this may vary slightly depending on local events.
      • Exit the M6 at Junction 36 and follow signs towards the A591 heading towards Windermere and Kendal. Follow the A591 for 19 miles through Windermere and into Ambleside.
      • Take a slight left at traffic lights onto Borrans Road (A5095) which heads down hill past the lake. Follow the road for about half a mile before turning left on to A593 after a rugby field on the left, signposted to Coniston.
      • After about half a mile, turn left onto the B5296 signposted to Hawkshead and Skelwith Fold Caravan Park. The entrance to Skelwith Fold Caravan Park will be on your right after about three quarters of a mile.
    • There’s no substitute for coming along and taking a good look around the park, and inside some of our caravan holiday homes. Don’t worry: there will be no sales pressure whatsoever, and we won’t insist on accompanying your every step. Feel free to wander anywhere in the grounds, and to experience the beauty and sense of peace which draws so many here. Just arrange your visit by calling the park on 015394 32277. Perhaps even try a stay in one of our Hideaways or our luxurious safari tents to get a feel for the park. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
    • We will be pleased to show you our available pitches when you come to look around. The park’s magnificent grounds extend to around 130 acres. Our holiday homes are all neatly “pocketed” throughout the parkland in small groups with generous spacing between the units. This helps maintain a sense of privacy, and allows holiday home owners to enjoy an intimate closeness with the natural world and woodlands around them.
    • We were very pleased to have been awarded the David Bellamy Conservation Award at its top Gold level again this year. This prestigious accolade was presented to us by the late Professor Bellamy (who visited the park on a number of occasions) in recognition of our achievements in protecting and enhancing the natural environment. A few years ago, in 2007, Skelwith Fold was the overall winner of the Best Park in England award, organised by the national tourist board VisitBritain. To achieve this prestigious accolade, we first had to come top in the Cumbria and then the North West finals before taking the all-England prize. In 2017 we were again awarded the accolade of 'Holiday Park of the Year' in Cumbria.
    • Yes. The park has a top five-star tourist board accreditation, designated as “Excellent”. The park industry’s grading scheme, which is applied across the UK by independent inspectors, measures the quality – and not the quantity – of the facilities provided by a park. Our classification means that standards at Skelwith Fold are officially rated as among the very best in Great Britain.
    • Skelwith Fold upholds all the codes of professional conduct and good practice set down by the British Holiday and Home Parks Association, the park industry’s official representative body. In fact, members of the Wild family (which owns Skelwith Fold) have been associated at a senior level with the organisation for many years, and helped lay the foundations for its policies of customer fair dealing, approved by consumer organisations. When you buy a holiday home at Skelwith Fold, you will be provided with an officially approved written agreement which will help ensure peace of mind in the years ahead. Within the agreement will be the all-important assurance of tenure: the right, in other words, to occupy the holiday home pitch for a given period of time – which in this case is 14 years. Other areas covered by the agreement include the frequency and level of increases in pitch fees for which at least three months’ notice is given. We are particularly proud that the majority of holiday home owners at Skelwith Fold stay with us for many years (sometimes even decades!). The quality of the park has a big part to play, of course – but so too, we like to think, does the strong emphasis we put on maintaining excellent customer relations. As a prospective buyer or existing owner, you are always welcome to talk with us on any matter, and our aim will always be to provide an answer which will meet with your satisfaction.
    • Although Skelwith Fold has holiday home owners from across the UK, we usually reckon that you’ll enjoy the best return from your investment by living no more than 2-3 hours from the park. In that way, your holiday retreat becomes easily accessible without having to face the prospect of a long journey. Having said that, Skelwith Fold is just a delightful half-hour’s journey from the M6 motorway – which puts cities such as Manchester and Newcastle within easy reach.
    • Skelwith Fold is open from the 1st March to the last Sunday in November (inclusive) each year. During our nine-month season, you will be free to use your static caravan / holiday home at any time. There is, of course, no need to tell us you are coming. Just turn up whenever you choose – perhaps even on an impulse whenever the mood or a sunny forecast makes it feel right!
    • Very much so. Almost all caravan holiday homes are made in Britain by one of around five leading manufacturers such as ABI and Swift.  All of which recognise that quality is the key to customer satisfaction. The standard of workmanship throughout holiday homes will be extremely high, and many traditional craftsman’s skills are used in the building process. Fittings, such as the carpeting, furnishings and kitchen equipment are all of excellent quality, and there will be a good level of insulation allowing the holiday home to warm up quickly when you arrive, and to stay snug with the help of thermostatically controlled heating.
    • Skelwith Fold, like all holiday parks, charges an annual pitch fee for caravan holiday homes which is presently £4,610.00 (for the 2021 season) and payable on the 1st May. In addition, you will need to budget for rates which, for 2019 (they were not charged in 2020 due to the extraordinary circumstances), was £300.94 for the year. Insurance is typically charged at around £11.00 per £1000.00 of value. Electricity is metered, and gas bottle exchange and delivery is available on-site.
    • Many people at Skelwith Fold choose to purchase their holiday home with a personal loan which can be spread over a preferred number of years. Most major banks, subject to an individual’s status, are prepared to make advances for caravan holiday homes, our preferred specialist lending partner is RoyScot Larch.

    • At Skelwith Fold, you could pay as little as £25,000 for a luxury caravan holiday home. Higher specification and new models are available at greater cost, up to around £80,000 – but even the most basic homes we offer provide superb quality standards and the promise of many years of carefree holiday enjoyment. The pitch fee for 2021 is £4,610.00 and runs from 1st May to 30th April. In addition to pitch fees you will need to budget for rates: for 2019 these were £300.94 for the year (they were not charged in 2020 due to the exceptional circumstances). Insurance is typically charged at around £11.00 per £1,000 (inc. insurance premium tax) but you’re welcome to shop around. Electricity is metered, and gas bottle exchange and delivery is available on-site.
    • Barbecues are permitted, but we ask that you not place them directly onto the ground, decking or picnic benches as this may cause damage. Please dispose of them responsibly. Our glamping guests may wish to make use of the sheltered barbecue area located by the Family Hideaway units. Here there are frames built to hold a disposable barbecue tray which you can purchase from our park shop. Please leave this area as you would wish to find it. You may leave the disposable barbecue in the frames at this location for our wardens to dispose of.
    • We operate a no smoking policy in all buildings and around our play area. We also ask that you not smoke within 15ft of any building entrance. When smoking around the park, please take care not to smoke too close to fire hazards such as gas canisters, and please remember not to litter. You are free to smoke inside your own property, whether that is a touring caravan or a holiday home. However, please do ensure that you take proper care to prevent any fire hazard. Smoking is prohibited inside any of our glamping units and charges may apply if this rule is breached.
    • Skelwith Fold is a dog friendly holiday park and pets are welcome in most areas, with a maximum of two dogs per caravan. Please note however that dogs may not stay in our glamping units, with the exception of our Wagtail Hideaway which is dog friendly. Please keep dogs on a short lead under strict control around all touring pitches, holiday homes and glamping units. Dogs may not be left unattended anywhere on the park at any time, including inside your accommodation. Please note that you are responsible for your pets at all time, including cleaning up after them and keeping noise to a minimum to avoid disturbing other guests. We reserve the right to ask the owner of any dog which causes a nuisance or threat to remove it from the park immediately. We cannot accept any breeds listed under the Dangerous Dogs Act.
    • Normally we are delighted to welcome your friends and family to visit you at Skelwith - whether at your own holiday home, touring caravan or glamping unit. However, while Covid-19 restrictions are ongoing, we are unable to accommodate visits from friends and family as we work within government restrictions to reduce the risk to all of our guests and staff from Covid-19. We hope to return to normal as soon as possible.
    • No – not as your permanent residence. We are licensed as a holiday park, so you can only use your holiday home for leisure – and not residential – purposes. Some people, of course, do choose to spend extended periods at Skelwith Fold during the Summer, and we applaud their excellent judgement!
    • No. The main reason is that we are anxious to maintain Skelwith Fold’s friendly and relaxed atmosphere, created largely by our community of owners who share a common pride in their surroundings. That isn’t to say that you can’t lend your holiday home to a family member or friend from time to time, but it should be principally for your own use.
    • Yes. All the common areas such as Reception and the library are wheelchair accessible. We also have disabled shower and toilet facilities for guests. Please ask at Reception for further information such as locations and how to access. We have also relaid many footpaths in our woodland areas to make them more accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs to allow more people to enjoy the tranquility of Skelwith Fold. Find out more about our accessibility.
    • Our Reception is open throughout the day from 8.30am and can be contacted on 015394 32277. Out of hours our duty warden can be contacted in an emergency on 07513 040186.
    • Yes, Wi-Fi is available at Skelwith Fold. In public areas and around the touring pitches, look for "Skelwith Fold Public Wi-Fi" on your device when on the park, and follow the on-screen instructions to get online. We provide a complimentary data package of 1GB, with further 15GB packages available for £15. Our glamping units also have Wi-Fi provided for your convenience. In your holiday home at Skelwith Fold, you may be able to receive the public Wi-Fi - but this will depend on your location on the park. All caravan holiday homes may be fitted with a router to provide internet access with faster service than the public Wi-Fi. This will have an installation cost and monthly fee. Please contact us for the current rates. Please note that we are in a rural location and that we cannot always guarantee a Wi-Fi signal.
    • If you’ve not been inside one for some time, you could be in for a very pleasant surprise. Modern caravan holiday homes are superbly designed along the lines of a conventional house with two or three separate bedrooms. They usually encompass en-suite, a bathroom, spacious kitchen area and a roomy lounge. They are supplied fully furnished and equipped to a very high standard. The kitchen will often come complete with fridge, freezer, cooker and microwaves. Bedrooms have built-in (or walk-in) wardrobes. The bathroom will have cupboards, a toilet, a shower and sometimes a full-size bath. Extra specifications such as central heating and double glazing are also available. These options are especially popular with purchasers. They allow the holiday home to be enjoyed in comfort in Spring and Autumn when the Lake District is often at its loveliest. Other add-ons can include timber decking. This addition allows you the ability to relax and perhaps eat outside whilst enjoying the panorama of the park.
    • Ambleside is a little over 2 miles from Skelwith Fold. To get there will take approximately:

      • 30-40 minutes walk
    • Yes, there is a bus stop just outside the main entrance to the park. Buses go to Ambleside and Hawkshead, and you can change in Ambleside for buses to Keswick and Kendal. Please contact Reception for an up to date timetable of local services. We can also recommend local taxi companies from Reception. Please be aware that it is about half a mile to walk to the park entrance from our reception.

Please be aware that if you move your booking from low season dates to high or peak season dates that you may be asked to pay a top up fee.

All toilet and shower blocks are closed for at least one hour daily for enhanced cleaning to help prevent the possible spread of infection. Please look out for notices on the toilet and shower blocks for the times they will be unavailable. We will keep this process under review.
    • We pride ourselves on high cleaning standards and we take pride in our park. We have put in place additional procedures for cleanliness for our team and visitors when visiting our holiday park.
      • Public areas across all our facilities have anti-bacterial hand sanitisers
      • Our holiday park teams are receiving regular updates and updated procedures
      • Guest notices have been placed in public areas
      • Cleaning protocols have been increased in all public areas, accommodation and team areas
      • We will be accommodating approximately 75% of our usual touring pitch capacity as we seek to maximise guests' safety through effective social distancing
    • At Skelwith Fold Caravan Park, we are committed to prioritising the health and wellbeing of our customers, owners and people. Our response to the current coronavirus outbreak has been, and will continue to be informed by government guidance, which is led by scientific and medical advice. At present, we have not been given any indication that we will not be able to reopen the park as usual on 1st March. When we reopen, we will be keeping in place our advanced customer safety protocols implemented in 2020 to protect our staff and customers as certified by our 'Good To Go' issued by VisitEngland stating that our processes are safe. We will be keeping the situation under constant review in line with government policy, and will communicate any changes to our opening dates if these change.
    • To minimise your chances of catching the coronavirus, there are a number of steps you can take to protect yourself and your family.
      • Always carry tissues with you and use them to catch your cough or sneeze. Bin the tissue and wash your hands regularly and thoroughly with soap and running water
      • Use an alcohol based hand sanitiser that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available
      • Avoid close contact with others if you are experiencing a cough, symptoms of a cold and fever
      • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
      • Germs can live on some surfaces for hours. Use anti-bacterial spray or wipes when cleaning, especially on frequently touched areas, such as door handles and kitchen surfaces
      • Don't get too close to people coughing, sneezing or with a fever - they can propel small droplets containing the virus into the air. Ideally, keep at least 2m (6ft) away
Following these steps is the best way to slow the spread of almost any germs, including coronavirus.
