Make the most of your holiday in the Lake District!
However you want to spend your days in Lake District, you’ll find a range of great options, all accessed via a short, enjoyable drive through charming villages and breath-taking countryside.
Here are just a few suggestions:
Zeffirelli’s Restaurant in Ambleside also acts as the local cinema, showing the latest films on multiple screens. They also offer dinner plus movie deals.
Beatrix Potter fans will enjoy both the World of Beatrix Potter found nearby in Bowness as well as Hill Top, Beatrix Potter’s Lake District house where she penned many of her books and is now open to visitors.
Shopping is made easy from Skelwith Fold as we are just 1.5 miles from Ambleside town centre. We are also close in proximity to Hawkshead, Coniston and even Windermere is only a fifteen minute drive which is handy for the local supermarket.
Go-Ape is an aerial adventure activity that takes place in the treetops of Grizedale Forest and is always very popular with thrill seekers and those who have excess energy to burn off. It’s worth contacting Go-Ape before turning up as the activity is often booked up in advance.
Grizedale Forest also offers free access to its well thought out woodland tracks. The walking routes boast unusual art installations to discover while mountain bike hire is available for the cycling routes if you don’t have your own.
Local Bus Services & Getting Around
Cycle hire is also available locally in Ambleside from Ghyllside Cycles so you can explore the area without taking the car and access those spots that would otherwise go undiscovered. Tandem’s are even available.
We have two very handy bus stops right outside our front gates, heading into Ambleside or Hawkshead. From Ambleside buses travel all over the Lakes.
Taxis are welcome on site to take you straight to your destination. Contact numbers can be found at reception.
Walks & Views
The Lake District is renowned for its fantastic walking and amazing views. We at Skelwith Fold Caravan Park encourage our customers to get out & see these fantastic attractions. A friend of the park has put together a collection of 15 different walks for varying strengths and abilities. The concise walks can be purchased from our shop for £1.50 each and all funds raised are donated to the Great North Air Ambulance.
